The Studio Edge Recording Program

Invest in Yourself

Jim Pavett created a program that will teach you the fundamentals of sound engineering so you can be a skillful engineer no matter what equipment you are using. Unlike other recording schools in which hundreds of students fight for lab time, The Studio Edge Recording Program is 100% one-on-one, hands-on instruction in a professional recording studio. You learn the theory and then apply it, resulting in a higher understanding and retention of the information.

Other areas of the program take you beyond basic software into the real world of recording techniques applied on diverse software and discrete systems. Learn what a software manual doesn't teach you.

In addition, you will record, edit, and mix multiple projects throughout the program. You will learn the techniques to make informed decisions about what equipment is compatible to do the job you need to get done. In other words, this program is designed to be used for real world applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What benefits does this Recording Program have over other programs?

  • Local-based: You will not have to pay for travel or housing expenses
  • Private instruction: More personal attention and all your questions answered
  • Hands-on instructed labs: Students will be in a real studio, working with real equipment and scenarios

We focus on teaching you knowledge which is cutting-edge. With the knowledge and mastery of our curriculum you will excel in any recording industry job. We focus on the knowledge, and knowledge is power. What you do with it is up to you.

Other schools boast having expensive gear. Learning an SSL mixer does nothing for 99.9% of all students. You can download a user manual to learn how to do that. Our goal is for you to have the ability to get behind any piece of gear and know how to use it effectively. Almost every class has real lab time built in. There is no better formula for learning then instantly applying the theory you just learned in a real world application. This maximizes your understanding and retention.

What topics are covered in the program?

  • Theory of Sound / Equipment & Applications / Digital Recording Fundamentals
  • Editing Techniques / DAW Systems / Mixing / Preproduction / Tracking / Microphone Technique
  • Record, Mix & Master Band
  • See detailed Subject and Curriculum List on the right

What is the time commitment of the program?

Our program is entirely self-paced, so you learn at your speed. Our best estimate is approximately 110 hours for a full program. Around 70 hrs for theory and hands on labs plus 40 hrs of intense Mixing, Tracking, Editing and Mastering.

When does the first program begin?

Whenever you are ready. Classes are taught one-on-one, between the hours of 10am-5pm.
We can usually do 2 sessions a week, 2-3 hrs each session.

Where is the program held?

All class hours are on-site at Allusion Studios.

What is the cost of the program?

Total Cost: $125 per hour for private instruction

Are there additional costs?

Everything is included and there are no additional lab costs.

Note: Students will be responsible for their gear and must assure that it remains in good condition. Otherwise, additional charges may apply.

How can I pay for the classes?

We require a deposit via Cash, or Visa/MC/Amex. You can pay all at once or spread out payments on a month by month basis.. When that month is up another deposit is required for the next month. This gives you the convenience of smaller spread out payments.

I'm not ready for this. Do you have a training video I can start with?

Yes, check out Jim Pavett's tutorial, The Studio Edge: Pro Audio Recording Series - Studio Concepts, Gear & the Physics of Sound. Watch the trailer below.
