Calexico

For the documentary Flor De Muertos, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Tucson’s iconic All Souls Procession, Jim Pavett of Allusion Studios was called in by longtime Calexico collaborator Craig Schumacher to engineer the live recording of the band’s performance.

The setup was nothing short of epic:

• 44 open mics on stage
• 4 direct boxes
• 6 audience mics
• 1 stereo pair at front-of-house

This complex mobile rig was deployed to faithfully capture Calexico’s dynamic sound in a live, open-air environment. Jim’s expertise in on-site recording, honed through projects like the 2004 Great Wall of China concert (96 channels), was instrumental in delivering pristine audio under demanding conditions.
