A Reunion 30 Years in the Making

When Cranberry Suit came to Allusion Studios, it felt less like a new client walking in and more like a homecoming. Jim Pavett has worked with most of the individual members across different bands over the past 30 years. The faces were familiar. The trust was already in the room before a single note was tracked.

That kind of history changes a session. There’s no warmup period, no feeling-out process, no time spent building rapport while the clock runs. Everyone knew what they were there to do — and they did it.

The Band

Cranberry Suit is a hard rock group with deep roots in the Tucson music scene. When these musicians came together under this name it felt like a supergroup — not because of fame, but because of experience. Decades of playing, recording, and performing across different projects had sharpened every one of them. Putting them in the same room, pointed at the same songs, produced exactly the kind of focused and powerful recording that only comes from musicians who have been around long enough to know what they want.

The Session

The live room at Allusion Studios is built for this. Spacious enough to capture a full band with real energy, with isolation booths that allow individual instruments to be tracked with the separation and clarity that professional mixing demands. Jim handled engineering and production throughout — mic placement, signal chain, arrangement decisions — drawing on four decades of working with rock bands at every level.

The recordings reflect a group that has spent decades learning how to play together, even if this particular lineup was new. That’s not something you can manufacture. It’s something you recognize when you hear it.

Allusion Studios at 248 W Elm St is Southern Arizona’s most advanced recording facility. Acoustically accurate control room. Live room built for full bands. Multiple isolation booths.
