At Allusion Studios in Tucson, AZ, we’re passionate about bridging eras – preserving the authentic soul of vintage recordings while leveraging today’s technology to make them shine brighter than ever.  I love tackling challenges that push the boundaries of what’s possible in audio restoration and remixing.

A perfect example: When musician Tal Middleton reached out about transferring and remixing a rare 16-channel 2″ analog tape from his 1970s band Fast Freight, recorded back in 1975. This was a classic rock project with raw energy, but time and technical limitations of the era had taken their toll – especially on the drums.

To remedy this, I used advanced processing wizardry I:

• Replaced kicks and snares with big, punchy samples triggered precisely to the original hits.
• Extracted isolated tom hits from the cymbal-heavy overheads through intensive processing – an engineering feat!
• Retriggered fresh tom sounds, then blended everything seamlessly with the vintage cymbals.

The result across all five songs? Massive, solid drums that provide the powerful foundation this rock classic needed…full, driving, and era-appropriate. We avoided ultra-modern polish to honor the 1970s genre and style, landing on a sound that’s timeless: bold and energetic, like the band had access to today’s tools back then.
