Phil Free recently released a project that was two years in the making. He began with just three or four songs and worked with them until rough mixes were completed – then he began another batch. Twelve numbers were recorded and nine were selected and mixed for the release, “All One”. The remaining tracks will be used on his next project. Jim recalls the experience, “One of the things I really like about being surrounded by creative musicians is the differences in their approach to recording. Some will record one song straight through at a time, while others track all the drums first, then the bass, etc. Still others record small batches at a time. I started the project as an engineer and drummer, but once I was behind the drums my engineer Chase took over. Eventually Chase finished engineering the project and I mastered it. Nothing like a little teamwork.”
