Got a box of tapes you can't play anymore? Allusion Studios transfers old audio and video to digital, and cleans up what time did to it. Cassettes, reel-to-reel, vinyl, VHS, DAT — handled in Tucson by a professional recording studio, not mailed across the country or run through a drugstore kiosk. Your recording never leaves town, and you can call and talk to the person doing the work.

Audio Restoration
Old recordings carry the damage of however they were stored — tape hiss, hum, surface noise, clicks and pops from a scratched record, levels all over the place. We fix that. Equalization to bring back what the tape lost, noise reduction that removes hiss without hollowing out the voice underneath, volume correction so you’re not riding the knob to hear a wedding speech from thirty years ago. There’s a limit to what can be recovered from any given tape, and we’ll tell you honestly what that limit is.

CD/DVD Duplication
Short runs, done in-house. High-grade CD-Rs and DVD-Rs for maximum compatibility, with monochrome or full-color disc printing. Ready as soon as authoring is finished — and no minimum order of five hundred you don’t need.

Media Transfers
Cassette, reel-to-reel, vinyl, VHS, DAT — converted to WAV, MP3, DVD, or whatever format you actually use now. The playback machine matters as much as the software: we have forty years of gear in the building, the converters to capture it cleanly, and a control room built for hearing what’s really on the tape. Every transfer gets trimmed, level-corrected, and checked by ear before you get it back.
FAQ
- My tape is old — will it still play? Bring it in. Most tapes are more durable than people expect, and one that looks bad often plays fine.
- Can you get rid of the hiss and hum? Usually — without making it sound underwater, which is what automated noise reduction does.
- Do you do video? Yes. VHS and HD video to DVD or digital files.
- How long does it take? Depends what you have and what else is in the studio. Call and we’ll give you a straight answer.
- Is it worth doing? The tape in your closet is decaying whether you transfer it or not. Fewer machines can play it every year. If it matters to you, do it now.
