Calexico’s Live Performance Captured by Allusion Studios
Flor De Muertos, a documentary marking the 20th anniversary of the All Souls Procession, featured a live performance by Calexico. The band’s setup was massive: 44 open mics on stage, 4 direct boxes, 6 audience mics, and a stereo pair in front of the house.
Recording engineer Craig Schumacher, who has a long history with Calexico, called on Jim Pavett of Allusion Studios for support. Pavett’s expertise in mobile on‑site recording, proven during projects like The Great Wall of China concert, made him the ideal collaborator.
With so many microphones and musicians on stage, the team required two engineers monitoring the recording throughout the performance.
“Capturing Calexico live demanded precision and teamwork. The result is a powerful document of the event,” Pavett said.
